Vision Statement
We seek a health care system founded on, sustained by, and responsive to the demands of human dignity.
Mission Statement
Convinced that the nation's health care system is neither equitable nor sustainable, and concerned that politics and special interests, not ethics or justice, drive health policy, the Georgetown University Community for Health Care Justice aims to critique and transform the culture that infuses American health care, ultimately helping to shape a just system, responsive to the demands of human dignity.
Strategies
- Raise up and critique the values implicit in US health care that contribute to its current unjust state.
- Articulate values and principles that must inform a just health care system.
- Explore the ethical dimensions of proposed changes in health policy in our research and publishing.
- Incorporate justice considerations in our teaching about US health care.
- Take a leadership role in reforming clinical education.
- Be a voice for those ill-served by US health care, particularly vulnerable and marginalized persons.
- Reach beyond the university to engage the public, raising the hard questions and trade-offs inevitably entailed in just. health care.
- Work with others to effect more just health care.
