The Center for Clinical Bioethics welcomes applications for visiting scholar status at Georgetown University Medical Center. Our program accommodates post graduate scholars, graduate scholars involved in completion of dissertations for higher degrees, as well as undergraduate scholars with a serious research interest.
Visiting scholars may apply for any length of time to pursue research on clinical ethics and bioethics projects. Typically, the length varies from a month, to a semester or an academic year.
The Center does not require international scholars to have a certificate of English language proficiency; however, applicants should speak, read and write English well enough to truly profit by their stay at the Center
Scholars are given a desk at the Center for Clinical Bioethics (on a space available basis), access to a computer, and use of local phone, photocopier, fax maching and on-line research capabilities. As appropriate, the Center will assign a mentor to guide the scholar and facilitate contacts with other faculty at the university.
Scholars are welcome to attend all CCB lectures in the Medical Center, and may, in certain cases, audit classes in the University with the permission of the professor. During the academic year there are generally several lectures per week on various topics in medical ethics at the hospital
Visiting scholars have full access to the resources of the National Reference Center for Bioethics Literature, the premier bioethics library in the world. The library's extensive collection and on-line research services will prove to be invaluable to any scholar's work. Carrels in the National Reference Center for Bioethics Literature are provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
The fee for visiting scholars is $100 per week payable at the beginning of the scholar's stay. The scholar will be presented with a certificate at the end of his/her stay.
